Wedding photography tips for brides – your photographer’s style
May 28, 2009These days, there seems to be many different types of wedding photographer: traditional, photojournalist, candid, posed… The names for the different styles go on and on and it can be quite confusing.
But really, there is only one secret to selecting potential photographers for your wedding:
shortlist photographers whose portfolio images you really like
Don’t get caught up in the terminology. If you prefer “candid” photos, you will naturally be drawn to photographers whose portfolios reflect this style. If you would prefer a more dramatic, model-type photograph for your wedding portrait, you should interview photographers whose portfolio demonstrates skill in this area.
Although this seems like a pretty obvious tip, it is very easy to become distracted by sexy titles.
p.s. Most photographers have online portfolios and this is a great way to shortlist photographers you would like to interview. However, keep in mind that these online images are the very best taken by the photographer over many weddings. Make sure you see a complete album of images from one wedding – in order to ascertain the hit and miss rate – before making your final decision.
